Essential items for a road trip with a baby

1. Nappies and wipes

 

If you have enough space in the car then you can potentially bring enough nappies and wipes to last the entire trip, as well as a few extra just in case. Make sure to also pack a changing mat to use in the car or when you're out and about.

 

2. Feeding supplies

 

If your baby is still breastfeeding you can bring a nursing pillow as you can take more things with you on a road trip compared to a flight! If your baby is on formula or solid foods, bring enough for the trip and a few extra just in case the trip gets prolongued! We always have a big stash of snacks both for our baby and for us.

 

3. Clothing

 

Pack enough outfits for your baby for the duration of the trip, including a few extra in case of accidents or spills. Make sure to pack some outfits for all potential weather. Babies can easily feel hot or cold so having a few options available always helps keep them comfortable!

4. Entertainment

 

Bring a few toys and books to keep your baby entertained during the trip. I like to have a box full of them as after playing with them for a while our baby likes to throw them on the floor and I don't want to have bending down to get them while we're driving!

5. First aid kit

 

A first aid kit is always a good idea when traveling, but it's especially important when you're traveling with a baby. Pack a few essentials such as baby-safe Calpol or ibuprofen, a thermometer and a nasal aspirator.

By packing these essential items, you'll be well-prepared for a successful and enjoyable road trip with your baby. Remember to also pack water and any other must have items that you may need for yourself during the drive - afterall parents should also enjoy it!
